Lowe's & Habitat Sponsor
Women Build Week
May 2 - May 10, 2009

Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program is underwritten by Lowe’s Home Improvement. It brings women from all walks of life together to learn construction skills, who then use those skills to build simple, decent affordable houses for qualifying low-income families.

Poverty housing is a severe threat to children’s health, growth and potential. According to the Census Bureau, in the United States more than 12 million children – one out of every six – is living in poverty.

Women have the capability and determination necessary to build Habitat for Humanity houses, addressing the problem of substandard housing in a concrete way so that families have safe, decent and affordable homes.

Women volunteers boost Habitat’s capacity to build more houses and serve more families. More than 1,400 Women Build houses have been built since the program began in 1998.

2009 marks the start of a new 5-year partnership between Habitat and Lowe’s Home Improvement, the underwriter of the Women Build program. By 2013, Lowe’s will have contributed nearly $40 million to Habitat for Humanity's efforts.

Lowe’s provided a $5,000 grant to Richland County Habitat for Humanity in support of our one-day Women Build. We give our sincere thanks to them for their generosity, and a special thanks to all who participated.
