Storage Building Under Construction

After a long wait, and thanks to a grand from the Richland County Foundation, and support from the Ontario Rotary Club, the dream of a Habitat storage facility is becoming a reality.

Mansfield Senior High School Construction Technology students, along with their instructor, Jack Schumaker, did the framing for the pole barn facility, and members of the 179th Airlift Wing put a roof on the building.

The facility, located at the corner of Longview and Averill Avenues, will soon house building

materials and supplies. This will help track our inventory, and streamline our supply and purchasing process. Currently, our supplies are stored in various locations around Richland County, making it difficult to inventory, or to have convenient access to things that are needed during our builds.

As with our Habitat for Humanity homes, the storage facility is being constructed using volunteer labor. Volunteer days are set for Wednesdays from 9AM until 3PM. Any talents you can donate for this, or any other of our building projects in the Richland County area are greatly appreciated by us and those who participate in our program.

If you would like to volunteer, please call the Habitat office at 419-524-8361 prior to showing up at the job site to verify those hours each week.

    How Are Partner Families Selected?

Families who wish to secure a house through Habitat For Humanity International apply to the local Habitat office in their area. Each partner family is carefully selected based on verifiable and continuous income, poor housing conditions, and a willingness to work.

A single parent partner family must contribute 250 hours of “sweat equity” (volunteer labor on RCHFH projects), a two parent family must contribute 500 hours. Also, a partner family must attend several mandatory workshops that are helpful to home ownership, such as

budgeting, small repairs, basic plumbing, and fire safety. All of these skills help attendees develop self esteem and pride in home ownership. Partner families are guided closely by a family nurturer who is a volunteer with Habitat.
